The Carolina Panthers have extended kicker Joey Slye through next season. Slye was an exclusive rights free agent, meaning if the team made an offer no other team could try to sign him. These contracts are usually pretty close to the league minimum, but official numbers have not yet been released.
Slye had a pretty solid season, nailing 29 of his 36 field goal attempts and 33 of his 36 extra point tries. Only missing seven field goals is pretty good for most kickers, but is even more impressive considering a few of those misses would have literally set NFL records for distance.
