While most NFL teams keep only two active quarterbacks on their 53-man roster for the regular season, the Carolina Panthers were blessed to have three over the past few seasons. Quarterback Joe Webb provided the Panthers an opportunity to have a third emergency quarterback in addition to a player who could contribute on special teams.
Webb understood his role as a special teams player and epitomized the team player persona. The reserve quarterback contributed in the preseason, throwing a team high four touchdown passes. Both Derek Anderson and Cam Newton had one.
Many never considered Webb as a target when Carolina began reducing their roster numbers.
