Well, that was a bit shocking.
The Panthers announced today that they will cut ties with former Pro Bowl full back Mike Tolbert and veteran tackle Paul Soliai. Not overly surprising seeing Soliai cut, as many saw him as a potential cap casualty after he barely played for the Panthers in 2016. Mike Tolbert is a little more interesting, considering he was still considered the number one full back for Carolina.
This tells us two things, the first being that the Panthers could foresee retaining Kawann Short and therefore Vernon Butler would be valuable depth. This means that the Panthers will also continue their search for a pure nose tackle, something they haven't had since Colin Cole.
