CHARLOTTE – Lavar Edwards, a journeyman defensive end waived by the Buffalo Bills in the final roster cutdown, has been claimed by the Panthers.
To make room on the newly minted 53-man roster, the Panthers waived defensive end Wes Horton, a run-stopping specialist who was also waived by Carolina in 2014 and 2015 and ended last season on the practice squad. Horton originally signed an undrafted rookie with the Panthers in 2013 and has played in 34 games (17 starts) with 42 tackles and six sacks.
A fifth-round draft choice out of LSU in 2013, Edwards has spent time with five franchises and has played regular season snaps for three.
