Panthers being cautious with Kalil

Head coach Ron Rivera said the Pro Bowl center will likely not play again in the preseason. The Panthers hope to have him ready for the regular season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"He’s very valuable to us obviously, so we are going to approach this cautiously," Rivera said. "We’ll be smart. The whole idea being what we want to do once we get to Jacksonville."

While Kalil nurses his knee, backup center Brian Folkerts and right tackle Mike Remmers will step in. Folkerts and Remmers, who played some center during training camp, each got work there during Monday’s practice as Carolina began preparations for Friday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.
