Panthers among league’s worst at running into brick walls

According to Josh Hermsmeyer (@friscojosh on Twitter), the Panthers run the ball against at least 7 man boxes on early downs more often than all but 3 other teams.

Rush % against 7,8 or 9 in the box on 1st and 10 and 2nd and 6-10 by team, 2017.

Every NFL team still runs more than passes in these situations, despite the fact that *every* team has a higher success rate passing.

I cannot explain this. pic.twitter.com/cYLOG8wmoK— Josh Hermsmeyer (@friscojosh) June 13, 2018

The Panthers only trail John Fox’s Bears, Jason Garrett’s Cowboys, and Jack Del Rio’s Raiders in terms of run frequency against stacked boxes on 1st and 10 and 2nd and 6-10 (He later notes that this chart is for non-red zone plays).
