One of the Panthers most tightly contested position battles of the offseason got a shaken up on Monday when the team signed punter Kasey Redfern and waived Swayze Waters.
Redfern has bounced around between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the San Diego Chargers as an offseason participant and practice squad member.
The North Carolina native played college ball at Wofford as the team’s starting punter from 2010 to 2013. During his time he averaged 39.6 yards on 146 punts with 35 of those landing inside the 20-yard line.
Redfern was most recently a member of the Chargers after spending the last few weeks of the 2015 season on their practice squad.
