The Panthers came into New Orleans with a 3-3 record and had a chance to go back over .500, but their inability to stop the Saints offense on third down sealed their doom in a closely fought 27-24 road loss in Week 7. Joey Slye almost made it interesting in the game’s final minutes, but came up literally a yard short on a 65-yard field goal attempt that would have tied the game at 27. The Saints took over after the miss, picked up one first down and kneeled out the clock to close out the game.
There’s only one reason the Panthers lost today, and that’s because they couldn’t stop the Saints on third down.
