The 2023 NFL season got started Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, and it didn't go so well for the home team.
The Chiefs were upset by the Detroit Lions 21-20 behind a defensive effort that held Andy Reid's high-powered offense to six second-half points.
Kansas City wasn't able to overcome the absences of tight end Travis Kelce (knee), who missed a game for the first time since his rookie season in 2013, and defensive tackle Chris Jones (contract dispute).
