For the second straight week, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton threw three touchdown passes on the way to another road victory. Newton and the offense couldn’t get much going by way of the run but tight end Ed Dickson and the Panthers wide receivers picked up the slack.
Dickson enjoyed a breakout game with five catches for 175 yards becoming the first Panthers player in franchise history with two catches of 50-plus yards in one game. His record day totaled more yards than any of his other seasons with Carolina.
The Panthers defense allowed Detroit back in the game late, but after two successive touchdown drives Newton and the offense secured the win with a big first down conversion on their final possession.
