NFL free agency: Carolina Panthers could be in the market for a backup quarterback this offseason

According to a report from Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina Panthers could be in the market for a backup quarterback this offseason now that Derek Anderson is a free agent.

Derek Anderson, Newton’s backup for each of his seven seasons, is eligible for free agency in March. Anderson did not have a terrific preseason, while Nick Foles’ march to Super Bowl MVP provided a striking example of the importance of an effective backup QB. It will be interesting to see if Rivera and (insert GM name here) bring Anderson back for another season.
