Since the inception of the Carolina Panthers only six top-10 selections have been made in the NFL Draft and barring a trade back this season, a seventh will be made on Thursday night. Current speculation is that general manager Dave Gettleman is targeting an offensive weapon to aid quarterback Cam Newton in the running game.
Despite selecting multiple running backs during his tenure, Gettleman has never taken one higher than the fifth-round. A selection of LSU running back Leonard Fournette or Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey would be a deviation from the norm for Gettleman.
Regardless, when granted a top-10 selection both the franchise and fans expect immediate production.
