Charlotte (AFP) - All-star quarterback Cam Newton has signed a multi-million dollar, five-year contract extension with the Carolina Panthers, the National Football League club announced on Tuesday.
The US media reported that the deal is worth $103.8 million and includes $60 million in guaranteed money.
"I've said all along, Cam is our franchise quarterback. We are absolutely thrilled that we got the extension done," Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said.
Newton led the Panthers to a second consecutive NFC South title despite a 7-8-1 record and guided the team to their first playoff win in almost a decade last season.
