CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Kyle Love spent the first three weeks of the NFL season keeping up with the Carolina Panthers from his couch at home. Now the veteran defensive tackle leads the highly-touted front seven with 1.5 sacks.
That tells you part of what is wrong with the Carolina defense that was one of the best at pressuring the quarterback last season.
Much of the criticism is falling on Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short, who has only one sack after leading the team with 11 a year ago. His lack of productivity seemingly has given credence to general manager Dave Gettleman for not giving Short the $17 million to $18 million in a long-term deal that would have made him one of the highest-paid tackles in the league.
