People joke all the time that the ‘NFL’ stands for ‘Not For Long.’ Usually they use that as a pithy reference to the cut-throat nature of the business side of the league. Everybody from players to General Managers can be jettisoned without so much as a thanks for stopping by when they start under-performing, no matter how beloved they are by their fans. It is also a useful phrase for fans of teams who are trending the wrong direction.
