Gov. Pat McCrory will be taking his Panthers jersey to the Super Bowl this weekend.
McCrory leaves Saturday for the Bay area ahead of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
McCrory, who was elected mayor of Charlotte the year the Panthers played their first game, took the stage at an uptown pep rally last week to cheer on the team. He was wearing a white No. 33 jersey with his name stitched across the back. It was a memento from the team’s first Super Bowl in 2004.
Aides called the trip “personal travel.” That means the state is not picking up the tab.
