Charlotte, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers dropped to 1-2 in preseason play after falling to New England, 19-17, Friday night in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium.

Cam Newton and Carolina’s first-team offense played into the third quarter Friday night – the longest period of time the unit has played together this preseason – but were only able to muster three points against the Patriots’ defense.

Third-string quarterback Joe Webb tossed two fourth quarter touchdown passes but it wouldn’t be enough to catch New England.
