CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Hall of Fame coach Don Shula didn’t celebrate the Carolina Panthers loss on Sunday with a bottle of champagne as some associated with the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins do when the final undefeated team goes down.
He called his son, Carolina offensive Mike Shula, to offer fatherly support.
“He was like every other kid’s dad, he felt bad for us,’’ Mike said on Monday, 24 hours after Carolina’s 14-0 start ended with a 20-13 setback at Atlanta. “He always has good advice, good fatherly advice. He’s always rooting for us.’’
Don Shula has been pulling for the Panthers (14-1) to top Miami’s 17-0 record and go 19-0.
