CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers special teams coach Bruce DeHaven has not had a setback with his battle with cancer, according to a league source.
But the Panthers are interviewing candidates to at least help DeHaven in his role as 67-year-old Russ Purnell did this past season.
According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, the Panthers are interviewing Tampa Bay assistant Kevin O’Dea and San Francisco assistant Thomas McGaughey for a special teams position.
DeHaven took a leave of absence during the offseason a year ago after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. He returned to his hometown of Buffalo for treatments and convinced his long-time friend Purnell to come out of retirement to take his place.
