CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dave Gettleman cut ties with a high-profile player after each of his first three seasons as the general manager of the Carolina Panthers.
He began with all-time leading receiver Steve Smith Sr. following the 2013 season. He followed that with all-time leading rusher DeAngelo Williams following the 2014 season.
He said goodbye to defensive end Charles Johnson, second on the team’s all-time sack list, following the 2015 season and then re-signed him for what appeared to be a bargain.
