Carolina Panthers cornerback Chris Houston has retired less than two months after signing a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.
The 30-year-old defensive back was vying for a backup job at corner, according to ESPN.com's David Newton.
Houston missed the entire 2014 season with a toe injury and most recently played for the Detroit Lions. During the 2013 season, he recorded two interceptions and 38 tackles. Just two years prior, he tied an NFL high with two interceptions returned for touchdowns while setting a league high with 225 interception return yards.
