Charles Johnson re-signs with Panthers on two-year deal

Charlotte, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers have re-signed 10-year veteran defensive end Charles Johnson, the team announced Tuesday evening.

Johnson’s deal will keep him in Charlotte through the 2018 season and pay the veteran $9.5 million, according to multiple reports.

The veteran defensive end has appeared in 131 games with 103 starts since being drafted No. 83 overall in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Panthers. Johnson has tallied 224 tackles, 24 passes defended, 17 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and ranks second in team history with 67.5 career sacks.

He started in 13 games last season and recorded a team-high 25 quarterback hurries also tallied 14 tackles, three forced fumble, two passes defended and four sacks.
