The Carolina Panthers have released second year safety Rashaan Gaulden. He is now subject to the NFL waivers process.
Gaulden was a much maligned third round pick in the 2018 NFL draft. The Panthers had a need at the safety position and were widely questioned when they chose to address that need with one of the least athletic safeties in the draft class. Every team whiffs in the draft, and the Panthers have a strange recent history with safeties. Still, Gaulden wasn’t so much off the charts with his athleticism as he was barely even on them:
