The Carolina Panthers finished the 2016 season with the sixth best run defense in the NFL in terms of yards allowed with only 1,465 rushing yards against. However, this stat doesn’t tell the whole story about the Panthers’ defense last year.
In a recent article by Football Outsiders, Rivers McCown looked at how defenses performed against one running back sets versus two running back sets. By looking at this breakdown, it provides a glaring weakness for the Carolina Panthers’ defense from a season ago.
The Panthers faced the 11th most two running back sets, which accounted for 27% of run plays they faced.
