The Carolina Panthers drafted quarterback Will Grier in the third-round (No. 100 overall) this past spring. Looking for a developmental talent to learn behind Cam Newton the Panthers elected to make the position a priority during the draft but appear hesitant to let Grier receive any regular season opportunities.
Vaulted into an immediate backup role when Newton was placed on injured reserve after just two starts, Grier has been behind second-year quarterback Kyle Allen for the entire season. Allen started hot in relief of Newton, leading Carolina to four straight victories before a second-half collapse reminiscent of last season.
