The Carolina Panthers have rounded out their 80-man roster, at least for now, by claiming runningback Trenton Cannon off waivers. Cannon was cut by the Jets on Monday. While Cannon did not see much action last season (zero offensive touches and only five kickoff returns for 96 total yards), that was largely due to the former Jet being grounded by foot and ankle injuries. Cannon did see some action as a rookie in 2018, notching 38 carries for 113 yards, including a touchdown.
Cannon was the Jets’ sixth round pick in 2018 out of Virginia State University, where he showed some potential.
