Charlotte, N.C. — The majority of Carolina Panthers starters watched from the sideline Thursday night at Bank of America Stadium as their teammates battled the Pittsburgh Steelers in the final game of the 2017 preseason.
Among the non-starters was quarterback Cam Newton, who has thrown only two passes – both completions – during the preseason. Newton is rehabbing after offseason surgery to repair a partially torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder.
Teams have until Saturday at 4 p.m. to make final roster cuts.
This year only one roster cut will take place in the preseason, a cut-down from 90 to 53 players, which allows all players on National Football League rosters to play through the final preseason game.
