Cam Newton will attend mandatory minicamp this week in Charlotte, but the Carolina Panthers’ former MVP quarterback will not be throwing, according to the team’s official website.
Newton, who underwent surgery on March 30 to repair a partially torn rotator cuff on his throwing shoulder, was originally scheduled to miss OTAs and minicamp practices. He injured his shoulder last season in Week 14 versus San Diego but played the team's remaining three contests.
The plan for Newton – set by Panthers’ head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion – was a 12-week recovery period with throwing on the sidelines 12 weeks post-op and throwing with the team after a 16-week hiatus.
