CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton made it through his charity kickball tournament on Friday with only a slight adjustment.
He threw underhanded.
The 2015 NFL MVP still hasn’t thrown overhanded since having surgery on March 30 to repair a partially torn rotator cuff on his throwing shoulder. He is expected to do that for the first time during a Tuesday-Thursday minicamp, but only side sessions.
But at Friday’s fundraiser that included Terrell Owens, Jameis Winston, Cody Zeller, Josh Norman and more than 25 Carolina teammates, Newton threw only underhanded whether it was pitching or throwing out a runner at first base.
