LANDOVER, MD. -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton didn't have to wear a coat and tie on the flight home after Monday night's 26-15 victory over Washington.
Coach Ron Rivera told the reigning league MVP, who was benched for the first series on the last road trip for not wearing a tie on the flight to Seattle, that he could wear sweats.
He told all the players they could wear sweats.
But Newton wore a coat and tie anyway because it carried a special message.
"I wore this type of outfit because of Craig Sager," Newton said of the 65-year-old broadcaster who died last week after a long bout with leukemia.
