Appalachian State kicker Zach Matics showed off his powerful leg at the end of the Mountaineers’ pro day on Thursday.
Matics, who went to Jacksonville’s Southwest Onslow High, made a 65-yard field goal at Appalachian State’s indoor facility that drew cheers from most in attendance.
He came up short and left on his two attempts from 68 yards, but his 65-yard feat was plenty.
“He surprised us all,” Appalachian State strength coach Mike Sirignano said. “He was boomin’ the ball. He’s got to get used to that (NFL) ball and it’s going to take some time.
