The Carolina Panthers are hiring Matt Rhule as their next head coach. He was a big name in this year’s coaching mill after having done a tremendous job at the college level of elevating Temple to new heights, rebuilding Baylor from a dumpster fire, and doing both in only a few short seasons. His potentially seven year deal—and the fact that they hired him—is a sign of both the Panthers interest in him and the level of interest he had around the league. But how can we judge this hire on day one? After all, the hire in question has no NFL coaching experience outside of one year as an assistant offensive line coach with the New York Giants in 2012.
