The Carolina Panthers are getting some interior defensive line help. The team signed former Atlanta Falcons DT Paul Soliai Monday.
The news was first reported by Ian Rapoport. Soliai signed a two-year, $7 million deal. The deal has $3 million in guarantees.
Soliai signed a five-year, $32 million deal with Atlanta in 2014, and was one of more notable signings that season. But he fell out of favor in Atlanta and the team cut him this offseason. He was a second round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2007, and a pro-bowler in 2011.
Soliai will be a run-stuffing defensive tackle for the Panthers. The team will continue to start Kawann Short and Star Lotuelei, but needed depth with the release of Dwan Edwards. Soliai will likely be the team's No. 3 DT.
