There's another NFL Trade, as the Los Angeles Chargers have sent OT Russell Okung to the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are sending OG Trai Turner to the Chargers. It's unclear if this is the only compensation involved.
The trade was first reported by Cameron Wolfe, with Ian Rapoport providing more details. It's a rather unusual trade, involving a pair of Pro Bowl offensive linemen.
The Chargers now have a hole at LT, something they'll need to address in free agency or the draft (unless they think Trey Pipkins is ready and the answer). The addition of Trai Turner (under contract for 2 years at $20.5 MM), provides a huge upgrade at RG for the Chargers. Michael Schofield was starting there, but he's a free agent.
Okung will cost the Panthers over $13 MM for his 2020 cap hit. The Chargers eat just $2.5 MM in dead money. Meanwhile, the Panthers save just $3.2 MM by trading Turner. The Chargers owe him less than $9 MM this year.
Carolina's addition of Okung means change on their offensive line. There's a hole at RG now, which could be filled by Taylor Moton. He played right tackle last year, but has played guard before. That would free up Greg Little to move over to RT, unless the Panthers are really worried about his health.
This is a developing story. Refresh for updates.
