After a decade outside the NHL playoff picture, the Carolina Hurricanes finally broke through in 2018-19. After clinching a postseason berth, they upset the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals and swept the New York Islanders before falling to the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Final.
The Hurricanes also garnered attention during the regular season for their elaborate post-game victory celebrations. Some old-school hockey analysts weren't amused, with Don Cherry memorably labeling them "a bunch of jerks.
