The Carolina Hurricanes lost to the Ottawa Senators 7-5 on Thursday night as they closed out their regular season in rare form.
The team was called for a total of 10 penalties in the game, including an “abuse of the officials” penalty on Shayne Gostisbehere after the game. On the other side, the Sens were called for three.
After the home team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, the Canes scored twice quickly to make a game of it just before the end of the period.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi snapped in his lethal wrist shot with two minutes and change left, and with less than a minute in the period, Skyler Brind’Amour knocked in a loose puck in the crease to score his first career NHL goal.
