The Bill Peters era with the Carolina Hurricanes looks to be drawing to a conclusion.
Bob McKenzie of TSN reported this afternoon on TSN 1050 Radio in Toronto that the Calgary Flames are close to finalizing details to hire Peters to replace Glen Gulutzan behind the Flames’ bench. Gulutzan and his coaching staff were fired on Tuesday by Flames GM Brad Treliving, who is a part of the Hockey Canada braintrust that named Peters to coach the Canadian team at the IIHF World Championships in May.
Earlier in the day, McKenzie reported that Peters and Canes owner Tom Dundon both preferred for Peters to not return to the Canes next season, but were at odds over whether the Canes would fire their coach, leaving them on the hook for his $1.
