The Carolina Hurricanes added some depth to the organization’s blue line Monday, signing UFA defenseman Joakim Ryan to a one-year, two-way deal.
Ryan played 35 games for the Kings last year with one goal and four points. Before that, he played parts of two seasons with San Jose. The deal with pay the 27-year-old blueliner $700,000 at the NHL level or $150,000 at the AHL level.
Ryan’s two-way deal gives the Canes options. He could be a veteran presence on the farm, something the Chicago Wolves franchise prioritizes, or, with Joel Edmundson, Trevor van Reimsdyk and (most likely) Sami Vatanen gone, he could be the Canes’ new No.
