Carolina Hurricanes forwards Marcus Kruger and Josh Jooris cleared NHL waivers Friday and were assigned to the Charlotte Checkers, the team’s AHL affiliate.
Kruger and Jooris were placed on waivers Thursday. NHL teams had until noon Friday to claim either player.
The Hurricanes host the Vancouver Canucks on Friday. With Kruger and Jooris assigned to Charlotte, the Canes could call up a player or two from the Checkers — Carolina hosts the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday to complete a back-to-back set at PNC Arena.
Kruger and Jooris both have been used on the Canes’ fourth line this season.
