RALEIGH, NC – On Monday, the National Sportscaster and Sportswriters Association (NSSA) named Carolina Hurricanes radio play-by-play man Chuck Kaiton as the 2015-16 North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year. Kaiton, alongside other winners, will be honored during the NSSA’s Annual Awards Weekend, June 18-20, in Salisbury, NC.
Kaiton has been the lone radio play-by-play voice for the Hurricanes franchise since it entered the NHL in Hartford in 1979, calling more than 3,000 regular-season, preseason and playoff games in his tenure. He was honored by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004 as the 26th winner of the Foster Hewitt Award, given annually to the NHL broadcasters who make outstanding contributions to their profession during their careers.
