After winning the 2019 Calder Cup, the Carolina Hurricanes and Charlotte Checkers Head Coach Mike Vellucci mutually agreed to part ways. Earlier this month they promoted Checkers Assistant Coach Ryan Warsofsky to fill that vacancy. Today, they added to Warsofsky’s staff by naming, former Hurricane and Checker, Patrick Dwyer assistant coach.
Originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2002, Dwyer spent all of his seven-year NHL career with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2008-09 to 2014-15. Following the 14-15 season, Dwyer signed overseas, before returning to North America and playing with the Charlotte Checkers in the 2016-17 season.
