Carolina Hurricanes: Valentin Zykov sent down 24 hours after getting called up

In a season full of head scratching moves from the front office and coaching staff of the Carolina Hurricanes, this might be the most confusing yet. Carolina sent down the leading scorer of their AHL affiliate Charlotte Checkers, Valentin Zykov, just one day after calling him up in the first place.

Zykov was listed as a healthy scratch, along with rookie defenseman Haydn Fleury, for the March 12 road matchup with the New York Rangers. Although Canes fans would not see Zykov on the ice at Madison Square Garden, there was an expectation he would suit up the following night.
