Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon made waves last season when, almost immediately on assuming ownership of the team, he put Hartford Whalers gear up for sale in the team shop. The response was immediate, and for this coming season, the concept is being taken to its logical end: a Hurricanes game in which the team wears Whalers throwback uniforms.
The Canes announced Thursday that the team will do just that on Sunday, December 23. Appropriately, it will be a game against the Boston Bruins, the team that shared Boston Garden with the WHA’s New England Whalers in their first two seasons of existence before moving to Connecticut.
