The Carolina Hurricanes are in the midst of a limbo-type year. They sit just under NHL .500 at 16-18-7, and it appears that playoff hopes are mostly lost.
A lot of things have contributed to this season’s struggles, but the two things that have stood out the most are the lack of strong goaltending through the early December and the lack of consistent offense.
While the future remains bright for the Canes and their forwards with the likes of Jeff Skinner, Victor Rask, Elias Lindholm, Phil Di Giuseppe, and WJC standout Sebastian Aho among others set as big pieces for the team’s future, the Hurricanes could stand to add young talent that could push them even further.
