Wednesday’s NHL trade deadline came and went with only two moves from Ron Francis. The Carolina Hurricanes, like the rest of the league, were relatively quiet. Carolina parted ways with pending free agents Ron Hainsey and Viktor Stalberg. The team received good value in both trades and no salary was retained in either dealing.
Carolina acquired a second round pick and Danny Kristo from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Hainsey.
Barring injury or a historical collapse, Ron Hainsey will finally get to lace up for an NHL playoff game. In four years with Carolina, Hainsey served as an excellent mentor to Justin Faulk and the rest of the Canes’ young defensemen.
