The goalie position was a big question mark at the beginning of the 2018-19 season for the Carolina Hurricanes. Petr Mrazek was brought in on a one-year prove it contract after an underwhelming season for both the Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers.
Scott Darling was coming off of a horrendous 2017-18 campaign, but would he be able to find the groove he had in Chicago with the Blackhawks. The questions grew larger when Darling was placed on injured reserve on October 2, 2018, two days before the season began.
The Hurricanes, on the same day, went and claimed Curtis McElhinney off of waivers to replace Darling while being out injured.
