Scott Darling was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in the summer of 2017, and was quickly signed to a 4 year, $4.15m AAV contract. His first three NHL seasons saw save percentages of .936%, .915% and .926%, which led to then-GM Ron Francis pulling the trigger on a trade to acquire what he believed would be a quality starter for the Carolina Hurricanes.
