The Carolina Hurricanes announced Saturday that they have recalled defenseman Trevor Carrick from the AHL Charlotte Checkers, and have placed Trevor van Riemsdyk on injured reserve with a concussion.
Carrick lost out to Klas Dahlbeck in the competition to serve as the Canes’ seventh defenseman coming out of training camp, but with TVR on the shelf and the Canes facing a lengthy road trip Bill Peters said yesterday that the team would recall a player to maintain roster flexibility. Van Riemsdyk will miss at least the next three games, and will be eligible to return next Saturday when the Hurricanes visit the Stars.
