In its over 20 year history PNC Arena has only replaced its scoreboard once. That was back in 2008. Since then the Carolina Hurricanes have proudly skated under the new multilayered Daktronics scoreboard. But now it has finally come time to retire that scoreboard for a new one. And perhaps it is most fitting that it comes now this summer.
The season after that scoreboard was installed the Carolina Hurricanes made the playoffs going for a deep run that ended in a sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals. That was followed up by the longest playoff drought in the NHL this century.
