On Tuesday, Ulf left his position as an assistant coach with the New York Rangers to join the Charlotte Checkers as the next head coach. The past three seasons with the Rangers, Samuelsson worked specifically with the defense and the penalty kill unit.
Samuelsson also previously served as the head coach for Modo Hockey in the Swedish Hockey League from 2011-2013. During that span he led the team to a record of 38-15-16-41, making the playoffs in both years he was at the helm.
Samuelsson has had experience developing player in his past. With the Rangers he helped with the development of young American defenseman Brady Skjei and Dylan McIlrath.
